Mobility as a Service (MaaS)

MaaS represents a significant opportunity for all participants in the mobility ecosystem. Social and demographic trends, and the popularity of various integrated mobility apps, suggest that consumers want MaaS, and they will choose which offerings succeed by voting with their feet.

Mobility suppliers will benefit from MaaS by using it to identify new market opportunities, hone their service offerings and optimise expenditure. Governments will also benefit.

The data platforms underpinning MaaS can be leveraged to plan the future of our cities, keep people moving efficiently, and avoid building expensive but unnecessary infrastructure by improving existing asset utilisation. (TTF)

Behaviour Change in the context of Personal Mobility

Private vehicle-based mobility is still the preferred form of transport. Sales data supports this with continued demand for new vehicles with a record sales year in 2017 (+ 2.4% up to 86,42m). Global car sales in 2018 contracted by 0.5% to 86 million vehicles, though, but only due to a dip in the Chinese market (which counts for nearly 30% of global sales).

According to NRMA ownership and usage of a vehicle is still to be “viewed as safe, comfortable and peaceful compared to active or public transport”.

Although travellers` decision-making process still seems to be a black box, it is important to understand peoples mobility behaviour in terms of transportation use and their attitude towards the new alternatives..

Hence acceptance and adoption of new mobility services, including Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), is still topic of ongoing studies, using several techniques which measure the behavioural intention of users.

boniSYS supports this endeavour by creating a behavioural change technology, based on a voice-controlled recommendation system, combined with the significant opportunity MaaS represents, paving the way for a shift in individual mobility behaviour.

Ontologies

Every industry has its own language. If you are a surgeon, you would talk about anaesthesia, incision, prothesis, ARDRGs. If you speak about the last mile, on-demand services or roadside sensors, its likely you work in the mobility industry.

This language is not only critical to being able to communicate with others in your industry, but it also influences how the programmers and data scientists identify those things that their data systems track, accept and analyse. How things relate to one another makes its way into programs, into data designs, and ultimately dictates whether the data that you collect is actually of value to an organisation. The concepts, relationships/properties and individual data are collectively referred to as an ontology.

The goal of an ontology is to achieve a common and shared knowledge that can be transmitted between people and between application systems. Even with the aid of reasoning enabled tools, developing and maintaining good quality ontologies is very often a difficult and costly task. This is were boniSYS comes in.
